Inside the ridiculously named hotel/service apartment complex of Little Tai Hang lies an awesome restaurant; BOND. Opened by restaurateur John Liang (Three Monkeys, Chibee, Gyotaku, Momotaro…) BOND aims to become the go-to laid back dining destination in Tai Hang. The décor of BOND is classy and stylish, with large wooden tables, comfortable chairs and a large terrace dining space fitted with sofa’s and cushions. The large, well-fitted bar also hints at a transformation to a sophisticated drinking spot at night. The kitchen is headed by Chef Hugo Cheung (Kee Club, Isola, Joia…), serving quality western comfort food at a reasonable price.
You can tell a restaurant is serious about its food when even the bread is amazing. They offer three selections of bread, all piping hot when it arrives at the table. My favourite was the dried fruit and nuts variety which was sweet with a lovely texture.
The seabass was cooked beautifully with a lovely crispy skin, sitting on a bed of roasted vegetables and plump clams. The stew was well-executed with a great balance of flavours (sweetness from seafood, acidity from roasted tomatoes and slight heat from spices).
Their signature dessert was a delight as well. The “cake” was more of a brownie-like texture; dense and rich. I would’ve preferred the chocolate cream/mousse to be a little lighter as it felt a little dry and crumbly. The rum taste was also barely noticeable, could definitely use a stronger kick!
Overall both the environment and food at BOND was top notch and I would definitely go back again to try their other items and drinks. They also serve a 3 course lunch set for only $150 which is very reasonable (plus during the soft opening period they offer a 20% discount on the entire bill). Definitely recommend trying if you’re in the area!
